I’ve previously commented on the massive disappointment that was the Goldeneye remake for the Nintendo Wii so I was very happy when I heard that Activision had also made an exclusive Bond title for both the PS3 and Xbox 360; 007: Blood Stone. This is not only one of the best James Bond games I’ve ever played (obviously the original Goldeneye trumps everything) but is also one of the best Xbox 360 games I’ve played in the last year. They have licensed both the likeness and vocal talents of Daniel Craig and Dame Judi Dench as well as getting Joss Stone to play the part of the Bond girl. The action is fast paced, the story is good, and the gameplay is excellent. Add to that a brilliant soundtrack and sequences worthy of the films and you have a definite winner. There is also plenty of re-playability with a wide range of different achievements which tempt you to replay through some of the levels.
The best thing about this game for me is that it follows the traditional Bond setup in that you start with an action packed opening which ends with a cheesy one-liner before going straight into an artistic credit sequence with a decent power ballad. This game is no different with a boat chase (complete with attacking helicopter), shoot out, and car chase in the first 5 minutes followed by a music video somewhere between "Tomorrow Never Dies" and "Casino Royale" sung by Joss Stone – you should watch that on YouTube now…
The other thing which sets this apart from other Bond games is that they’ve made it a lot more gritty in keeping with the current Daniel Craig franchise. Instead of shooting someone smoothly with your Walther PPK, you can grab them, smack them into a wall, and then chuck them over a balcony – there’s a lot more physical action rather than distance shooting and bad quips.
If you’re a Bond fan, I’d highly recommend this game.

2012-061 Girls’ Basketball Game Nailbiter

While driving home from an appointment this evening, we were able to hear the end of our local girls’ team playing in the state basketball tournament. It was such an exciting game, and it ended just as we arrived home–with an overtime win! They’ll play for the championship on Saturday.
