Pre race display – we go on track at intermission – second from Right on lower row – next to Fike Plumbing Sprintcar
From Randall: "Carl:
Friday night of the scheduled two day Eldora event was a complete washout with over 2 inches of rain falling at the track. Thankfully, the event was cancelled early in the afternoon. Saturday turned out to be a great day and evening and although dark clouds rolled in a couple of times the rain stayed away. You’ll notice the dark skies in a couple of the photos.
The turnout for the vintage show (put on by VARC….Vintage American Racing Club) was good with around forty cars showing up. Because of the condensed schedule the vintage cars ran in two sessions with your car going out in the first session which was run after the four sprint car heats. I had a little trouble again with my camera in the low lighting but it did work pretty well since Eldora is one of the best lighted tracks around.
Tom said that the car ran strong with the new ignition and that the dirt track tires worked well too. In fact, he got going fast enough on the straights that he felt like he had to grab the brakes going into the turns because the hard packed track was getting a little slick (and rough) by the time we got to go out.
While we were waiting and the cars were on display I took some general interest photos for you showing parts of the track that you probably haven’t seen before. Eldora is probably the best dirt track in the country right now and even has a live video screen showing instant replays of track action. Both your car and Dr. Dicks’ sprinter got live play on the video screen while the track announcer was giving the background information on the cars. There are also photos of USAC drivers Bobby East and Bryan Clauson being interviewed for the video screen. And the trophy girls were walking around and decided that your car was one of the most unique on display so we got some photos of them sitting in it.
At any rate it turned out to be a great night and your car performed just fine. We are planning on going to the Kokomo Speedway on Thursday for both some track and display time at a local museum. And, of course, there’s Jungle Park on the weekend that you are planning to travel to Indy.
No promises yet but we are also looking into adding one more event before the car goes back. I’ll let you know when we make the decision.
Thanks,
RJC"

Highlights of the Henry County Fair Parade August 2010 in Napoleon, Ohio of Northwestern Ohio
It has always been the tradition for as long as I can remember, the Henry County Fair Parade would march all the way through town to the fairgrounds with hundreds of people lining the streets all the way. Parade participants would come along and pass out candy and other trinkets for advertising. The parade is a long march to the fairgrounds and in our August heat, it can be quite stressful. Old and new cars, fire trucks, tractors, and more just kept coming, along with bands and floats. We had not come over and viewed it for quite some time, but since some of the grandchildren were going, we came along also. A slight breeze began later that helped with the afternoon heat.
The best part I enjoyed most was when this beautiful six-horse team of horses came through pulling a wagon. They had to stop for a little bit and if you notice in the second photo, the one horse decided to do his business in the street. You will then notice there was a crew that came along to clean it up, but being in a hurry, he did not exactly pickup every little morsel. Later, this group of cheerleaders came through and one of them accidently stepped in the manure. I felt sorry for her, but at the same time it was so funny watching her run to the side, pulling her shoe off yelling, I stepped in poop. The poor little girl probably threw those shoes away. That is just some of the hazards of a parade.
