Notes: Marguerite (Meg) Fennell, nee Turner, visited Springwood library recently and updated our information on this photo

It was taken by her father in 1936 when Meg was three years old. She had been out in her play clothes when her father called her to pose for the photo with local newsagent Bert Honeysett. Meg’s mother, Mary Emma (1903-2000) was mortified that she did not have a chance to put Meg in her best dress.

Her father Royden Turner (Roy, 1893-1981) was the post master at Springwood and the family lived in the residence at the rear of the post office in Macquarie Road.

Meg was born in Springwood in 1933 and was delivered by Dr Ernie Baxter. The family left Springwood in 1939 when Roy was promoted to the position of post master at Cronulla. After attending North Sydney Girls' High, Meg undertook teacher training and taught in schools at Parkes and Broken Hill. She then enrolled in nursing training through The Royal Melbourne Hospital and became a registered midwife. She married in 1963 and now lives in Melbourne.

The location is believed to be the original spring in Jerseywold Ave, after which Springwood was named by Governor Macquarie in 1815.
